Dignity Day: Because Every Kid Deserves to Feel Good
There are things most of us do without thinking. We wash our hair. We dry it. Maybe we add a bit of product, style it, and get on with our day.
For the kids at SmartieTown, a school serving an economically disadvantaged community in South Africa, that routine doesn't exist. It's not a given. It's not even on the list. When you're growing up without reliable access to the basics, a hair wash isn't self-care. It's a luxury most of these children rarely experience.
That's what Dignity Day is about, showing up and doing something that matters.

What Happened on Dignity Day
This year, our VRCares team headed to SmartieTown for a day entirely dedicated to the kids.
50 children came in. Each one got their hair washed, blow-dried, and properly styled, with real product, real care, and a lot of laughter in between. Every single child left with a fresh look and a hot dog in hand.
It sounds simple. In some ways, it was. But the smiles on those kids' faces told a different story, one about what it feels like to be seen, cared for, and treated with dignity.
Why We Do This
When our founders started VirtualResource, giving back wasn't something they bolted on later. It was a founding principle, something they agreed on before they'd agreed on almost anything else about the business.
VRCares is the result of that commitment made real. It's our dedicated community division, where our teams work directly alongside communities and organisations. Volunteering. Building schools. Supporting the elderly. Working with LGBTQ+ communities. Providing food. Getting hands dirty.
We believe a business should live inside its community, not just operate near it. There's a difference, and that difference matters.
More Than a Day
Dignity Day wasn't a tick-box exercise. It wasn't a one-off moment.
It's part of an ongoing commitment to SmartieTown and communities like it. The kids we styled that day are kids we'll keep showing up for. That's the standard we hold ourselves to.
